Bombardier Receives Waiver from Canadian Government for VSMPO Titanium

Montreal-based aircraft manufacturer Bombardier recently announced that it has received a waiver from the Canadian government for the use of VSMPO-AVISMA titanium. Canada had imposed sanctions on the Russian entity VSMPO-AVISMA in late February.

Bombardier, which produces business jets, secured this waiver on behalf of its supply chain and confirmed to Argus on Tuesday that it does not purchase directly from VSMPO.

Bombardier did not specify which parts use titanium sourced from VSMPO, stating that it does not comment on its suppliers' operations.

Canada added VSMPO-AVISMA to its list of sanctioned entities on February 21, becoming the first Western country to impose significant sanctions on the company, following U.S. export restrictions implemented in September.

Meanwhile, aircraft manufacturer Airbus acknowledged last week that it had obtained the necessary authorization from the government to secure its operations in Canada, where it operates a final assembly line for its A220 jet in Mirabel.
