China's XTC Launches Tungsten Oxide Project in South Korea

Major Chinese tungsten producer Xiamen Tungsten (XTC) has inaugurated a tungsten oxide production facility in South Korea. The project, named Tungamoy Metals, has a nameplate capacity of 1,500 t/yr for tungsten oxide. It is located in the Saemangeum industrial park in North Jeolla province. The facility will utilize tungsten scrap sourced in South Korea to produce tungsten oxide.

XTC invested around 80 million yuan ($11 million) in this project, with construction starting a year ago. The company aims to expand its overseas tungsten resource recycling capabilities and enhance its tungsten recycling capacity through this new project in South Korea.

In addition, XTC is increasing production capacity at a subsidiary in Thailand, with a designed capacity of 3,000 t/yr for tungsten powder, 1,200 t/yr for tungsten mixtures, and 1,000 t/yr for cemented carbide bars. Construction for this expansion project will begin in August and is expected to be completed by 2026. This will boost the facility's capacity to 5,000 t/yr for tungsten powder, 2,000 t/yr for tungsten mixtures, and 1,700 t/yr for cemented carbide bars.

XTC operates complete production lines for tungsten products, including tungsten concentrates, smelting products, and high-tech cemented carbide products. It is a major consumer of tungsten feedstock, including tungsten concentrate and ammonium paratungstate (APT). The company's fortnightly bid prices for APT are a key indicator for the tungsten spot market, as it consumes more than 20,000 t/yr of APT or tungsten concentrate feedstock.
