Maruichi Steel Tube Plans New Stainless Steel Pipe Plant for Semiconductor Equipment, Invests ¥48 Billion

Japan’s Maruichi Steel Tube announced its plan to establish a new plant for stainless steel pipes used in semiconductor equipment. The company plans to invest ¥48 billion (approximately 416 billion KRW) to secure the new plant.

Maruichi Steel Tube revealed that it will build the 40,000 square meter plant in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with construction starting in April 2025 and completion expected in 2027.

The company stated that this major investment is part of a long-term development plan announced last October, aiming to meet the growing demand for semiconductor equipment. The plant will mainly produce products used for industrial gas injection in semiconductor manufacturing processes.

This move is seen as a response to international semiconductor companies like TSMC and related vendors establishing large-scale plants in Japan and planning to expand their local operations.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, “Maruichi Steel Tube recently acquired the former Chugoku Electric Power thermal power plant site near the headquarters plant of its group company, Maruichi Stainless Steel Tube, for ¥3.7 billion.” The new plant is expected to collaborate with Maruichi Stainless Steel Tube.
