Battery energy storage system (BESS) maker Hithium Tech USA plans to invest $100 million in a new battery module and system assembly manufacturing facility, which would be the company's first in North America.
The proposed plant in Mesquite, Texas, will have an annual production capacity of 10GWh, Hithium said on July 12. The 483,874ft2 facility expands the company's US presence, which includes offices in Dallas, Texas, and Fremont, California.
The company - the US subsidiary of China's Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology - produces cylindrical and prismatic cells used in lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, as well as battery modules and storage products.
Hithium, in partnership with solar developer Solarpro, completed a BESS installation project in the latter's home country of Bulgaria on July 9. The project, consisting of 16 of Hithium's energy storage containers, has a capacity of 55MWh and is located near a 33MW solar power plant operated by Solarpro's parent company, Renalfa.
