Germany’s Speira Invests $38.8 Million in Advanced Furnace in Norway

Speira, a leading aluminium producer based in Germany, has announced a significant investment of 414 million kroner ($38.8 million) in a state-of-the-art furnace at its rolling and recycling facility in Holmestrand, Norway.

Set for completion in 2026, this advanced furnace will markedly increase the Holmestrand plant’s capacity, allowing it to process an additional 22,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually. As a result, approximately half of the plant’s production will utilize recycled materials, thereby reducing its carbon footprint by an estimated 150,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

This substantial investment closely follows Speira’s recent €40 million commitment to a new recycling furnace and the modernization of an existing casting plant at its Rheinwerk facility in Neuss, Germany.

"Ensuring our competitive edge in the future requires continuous investment in cutting-edge equipment," stated Jon Gaasholt, manager of the Holmestrand plant. "The new furnace will cement our status as a leading provider of rolled and recycled aluminium products."
