The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is committing $14 million to bolster consumer battery recycling efforts. This initiative will see Staples and Batteries Plus each receiving $7 million to install recycling containers in their stores. The plan will create over 1,000 new drop-off locations across the nation, making it easier for consumers to recycle old batteries and battery-containing devices, thereby reducing electronic waste.
The DOE highlights that the recycled materials will be used to manufacture new batteries and various electronic devices, including cell phones, laptops, and smartwatches.
