Metal Source Expands Operations with Acquisition of Alabama Aluminum Facility

Metal Source, a subsidiary of Gebhart Holdings based in Indiana, has finalized the acquisition of Imperial Group's aluminum facility in Scottsboro, Alabama, effective August 1. This move represents Metal Source’s first venture outside its home state.

The newly acquired Scottsboro facility is equipped with two rotary furnaces and a reverberatory furnace, which are used to produce sow, ingot, and deox cone. This acquisition significantly boosts Metal Source's recycling capabilities, enabling it to process more than 100 million pounds of scrap aluminum annually and produce aluminum alloys, zinc alloys, and aluminum deox cone.

With the integration of Imperial Aluminum's assets, known for its production of aluminum alloys and tolling services for aluminum scrap, Metal Source is set to enhance its operational footprint. This strategic acquisition follows Gebhart Holdings’ previous purchases of Bedford Recycling's facilities in Bedford and Mitchell, Indiana, earlier in 2023.

Ben Gebhart, CEO of Gebhart Holdings, emphasized, "This acquisition enhances our ability to serve customers in the South, broadening our customer base and expanding our product offerings."

Currently, Metal Source operates three aluminum melting plants—two in Indiana and one in Alabama—as well as five scrap yards in Indiana. The company has applied for an operating permit for the Scottsboro facility but has yet to disclose the official start date or anticipated production figures.
