World crude steel production across 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reached 146.8 million metric tons in November 2024, reflecting a modest 0.8% year-on-year increase. Despite this improvement, year-to-date production stood at 1.69 billion tons, marking a 1.4% decline compared to the same period in 2023.
U.S. and North America Face Declines
The United States produced 6.4 million tons of crude steel in November, a 2.4% drop from November 2023. Year-to-date production in the U.S. totaled 72.9 million tons, down 2.2%. Across North America, crude steel output was 8.5 million tons in November, down 5.2% year-on-year, while the 11-month production of 97.1 million tons reflected a 4.1% decline.
Growth in China and India Drives Asia’s Output
China, the world’s largest steel producer, delivered 78.4 million tons in November, a 2.5% increase compared to November 2023. India continued its upward trend with a robust 4.5% year-on-year increase, producing 12.4 million tons in the same period. These figures emphasize Asia's role as a key driver of global steel production growth.
This slight rebound in November’s global steel production suggests some stability, but regional discrepancies highlight persistent challenges in the industry.
