Liontown Resources |
Liontown Resources, a leading Australian lithium mining company, has reached a new milestone with its largest-ever shipment of spodumene concentrate. This shipment included 33,000 wet metric tonnes (wmt), of which 11,000 wmt was supplied to South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution (LGES). This achievement solidifies Liontown’s position as a significant player in the global lithium supply chain, which is critical to the growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Strategic Partnerships Strengthen Global Presence
This landmark shipment initiates Liontown's long-term offtake agreement with LGES, highlighting a robust partnership between the two companies. While a significant portion of the shipment fulfilled the agreement with LGES, the remainder supported Liontown's short-term offtake commitments. This dual approach underscores Liontown's strategic efforts to meet diverse market demands while strengthening its presence in the global battery supply chain.
Quality and Long-Term Commitments
Liontown’s spodumene concentrate, with a weighted average grade of 5.2% Li2O, reflects the company's ability to meet the stringent quality requirements of industry leaders. Since September, the company has consistently shipped lithium from its Kathleen Valley Lithium Operations, demonstrating its enhanced production capabilities.
In a show of mutual trust, Liontown and LGES extended their initial five-year agreement by an additional ten years in July. This extension ensures supply stability for LGES and provides Liontown with a dependable revenue stream, reinforcing the long-term benefits of their collaboration.
