CMOC Molybdenum Output Declines Slightly in 2024 but Exceeds Annual Target

CMOC

Production Decline Amid Lower Ore Grades CMOC (China Molybdenum Co., Ltd.), also known as Luoyang Luanchuan Molybdenum, reported a slight decrease in its molybdenum production for 2024. The company produced 15,396 tonnes of molybdenum metal equivalent, marking a 2% decline compared to the previous year. This drop is attributed to lower grades of original ore processed at its operations in Henan, China.

Exceeding Annual Target Despite Challenges Despite the decline, CMOC successfully exceeded its internal target range of 12,000-15,000 tonnes of molybdenum metal equivalent for 2024. The company has not disclosed any specific sales figures for its molybdenum output. However, the ability to surpass its production target highlights CMOC’s operational efficiency and strategic planning despite the challenges of declining ore grades.

Market Implications and Industry Outlook Molybdenum is a critical metal used in steel alloys, aerospace, and energy sectors, making its production levels a key factor in global supply chains. CMOC’s output performance is closely monitored by industry stakeholders, given its significant role in the molybdenum market. While the slight decline in production may create short-term supply constraints, exceeding the target suggests stability in the company’s long-term production strategy.

With global demand for molybdenum remaining strong, CMOC’s ability to adapt to resource quality challenges will be critical for maintaining its position as a key player in the industry.
