Italian Long Steel Prices Remain Stable Amid Limited Demand

Kallanish

Market Overview and Price Trends

The Italian long steel market remains stable, with no significant price changes since January, according to Kallanish. While some niche sectors have placed orders over the past two weeks, overall sales of longs and flats remain subdued, with transactions limited to small truckloads. Buyers continue to exercise caution and resist any attempts at price increases.

Merchant Bar and Sections Market Developments

One Italian merchant bar producer has halted sales and is expected to raise prices by approximately €20/tonne ($20.9). The decision is driven by rising energy costs and higher scrap values, which are making current pricing unsustainable. At present, domestic merchant bar prices range between €690-700 per tonne delivered, including size extras.

Meanwhile, demand for steel sections remains weak. However, compared to last month, contract prices have increased by €10 per tonne. The first category of beams is now priced at approximately €800 per tonne delivered for smaller orders. European markets anticipate further price increases in the coming months.
