The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has expanded its membership by welcoming three key players in the steel industry: Ryerson, Olympic Steel, and Zekelman Industries. This move strengthens the organization’s advocacy efforts in addressing critical industry challenges, including unfair foreign trade practices.

Strengthening Industry Advocacy

AISI, a leading trade group representing domestic steelmakers, sees the addition of these companies as a strategic step to enhance industry representation in policymaking.

“These three companies have been strong allies on steel industry policy issues. We look forward to working closely with Ryerson, Zekelman, and Olympic Steel to further amplify the voice of our industry in combatting unfair foreign practices and other areas that present ongoing threats to the competitiveness of the American steel industry,” stated Lourenco Goncalves, AISI board chairman and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs.

Expanding Legislative Engagement

Kevin Dempsey, AISI President and CEO, emphasized the importance of collaboration in strengthening advocacy efforts. “The collaboration with these three companies will enhance AISI’s already significant engagement with members of Congress and the administration,” he said. “We look forward to working together with these industry leaders to continue our strong advocacy on behalf of the domestic steel industry.”

The inclusion of Ryerson, Olympic Steel, and Zekelman Industries bolsters AISI’s influence in legislative discussions and trade policies, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring the competitiveness of the American steel sector.
