Zircon and Ilmenite Shipment Forecasts
Sheffield Resources (ASX: SFX) has raised its zircon shipment forecast for Q1 2025 from the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Mine in Western Australia. The company now expects total zircon shipments to range between 55,000 and 70,000 tonnes, exceeding the previous guidance of 40,000 to 60,000 tonnes issued in December 2024.
Meanwhile, the company confirmed that Q1 ilmenite concentrate shipments remain within the previously estimated range of 160,000 to 180,000 tonnes.
Market Demand and Operational Adjustments
Executive Chairman Bruce Griffin highlighted that the increase in zircon shipments signals a significant turnaround for Sheffield.
“This is a direct result of the efforts of the Kimberley Mineral Sands marketing team and the strong interest we are seeing from existing and new customers for Thunderbird zircon concentrate,” Griffin said.
Despite the temporary closure of the Great Northern Highway between Port Hedland and Broome due to Cyclone Zelia, Sheffield has assured that product shipments and sales remain unaffected. Kimberley Mineral Sands, which operates the Thunderbird Mine, has temporarily suspended mining and processing operations but expects to resume activity once supply routes are restored.
Kimberley Mineral Sands Joint Venture
Kimberley Mineral Sands is a 50:50 joint venture between Sheffield and Yansteel. The company is actively exploring adjacent tenements on the Dampier Peninsula while ensuring consistent production and export of mineral sands products.
