ACCIONA Energía Breaks Ground on 176MWp Daanbantayan Solar Plant in Cebu

 ACCIONA Energía

Major Solar Investment in the Philippines

ACCIONA Energía has commenced construction on the Daanbantayan solar plant (176MWp) in Cebu, Philippines. The project, valued at approximately €120 million, is expected to start operations in late 2026. It will generate 280GWh annually, supplying clean energy to over 300,000 people.

Energy Storage and Public-Private Partnership

The plant will include an energy storage system to release electricity during peak demand, stabilizing the power grid. ACCIONA Energía and the Cebu provincial government have signed the country’s first public-private partnership (PPP) in the energy sector for power distribution.

Supporting Renewable Energy Goals

This initiative aligns with the Philippine Development Plan to boost renewables to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. It represents ACCIONA Energía’s first photovoltaic plant in the Philippines and the largest under construction in the Visayas archipelago. The company is also developing wind farms in Laguna and Pantabangan.
