Funding Strengthens Education, Wellbeing, and Community Development

Anglo American (LSE: AAL) has announced its 2025 Community Grants Program, providing essential funding to community groups and non-profits in Central Queensland. Organizations in Moranbah, Middlemount, Moura, Banana, and Theodore can apply for support to enhance local education, environmental initiatives, and skill-building programs.

Kate du Preez, head of sustainability and corporate affairs at Anglo American Australia, emphasized the company’s commitment to regional communities.

“We are passionate about ensuring mining benefits reach the people and places that make our regions unique now and for generations to come,” she said. “Our Community Grants Program is just one of the ways we invest in the future of our local communities.”

Empowering Education and the Arts

In 2024, Anglo American awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to 57 community organizations. Among the recipients, Middlemount Community School received $34,000 to support furniture, musical equipment, and academic achievement awards. The funding helped the school stage a performance of The Wizard of Oz and host a regional eisteddfod, attracting 150 competitors.

Principal Sarah Quinn highlighted the program’s importance in sustaining arts education.

“The grant funding provided by Anglo American has been instrumental in revitalizing our school arts program, benefiting both students and the wider community,” she said.

Enhancing Youth Wellbeing

Middlemount Youth Centre, a long-term grant recipient, received $15,000 last year to continue providing a safe, inclusive space for local students. Youth worker Ivan Edeling praised Anglo American’s commitment to mental health and community support.

“With more than 10 years of continuous funding, Anglo American has truly demonstrated its long-term commitment to the wellbeing of Middlemount’s youth,” Edeling said.

Applications for the 2025 Community Grants Program remain open until March 31, 2025, providing an ongoing opportunity for Queensland communities to access critical support.
