Strengthening Battery Swap Infrastructure

Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) plans to invest up to CNY2.5 billion ($346 million) in Nio Energy Investment. This partnership aims to expand battery swap services and unify industry standards, enhancing accessibility for all passenger EV brands.

Building a Unified Battery Swap Network

Nio announced that CATL's Choco-Swap technology standard will be integrated into its upcoming Firefly models. Both companies will work together to standardize battery swap services, creating the world's most advanced EV battery swap network. The collaboration also seeks to establish national battery swap standards, enabling cross-brand and cross-model compatibility.

Expanding Battery Swap Services Nationwide

Nio currently operates 3,172 battery swap stations across China, targeting full coverage in over 2,300 county-level regions by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, CATL plans to expand its swap stations to more than 30 cities, exceeding 500 facilities by next year. This investment reinforces their commitment to long-service-life battery research, asset management, and material recycling.
