Lindab Steel, a subsidiary of ventilation technology group Lindab AB, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH to source low-carbon steel from the Salcos (Salzgitter Low CO₂ Steelmaking) route. This initiative aligns with Lindab’s sustainability strategy, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance the use of eco-friendly materials in its manufacturing processes.
The CO₂-reduced steel will be primarily used in ventilation products, including air ducting systems, as well as profiled construction materials like roof and façade cladding. The agreement reflects the growing demand for sustainable steel solutions across various industries as companies work toward decarbonization.
Thommy Psajd, Sourcing Director at Lindab Steel, emphasized the company’s long-term sustainability goals:
“Our ambition is to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the whole value chain by 2050, and we see Salzgitter as a contributing partner on our journey.”
Lindab has been actively engaging with low-emission steel suppliers to support its sustainability targets. In 2023, the company signed a similar agreement with Tata Steel Nederland, reinforcing its commitment to sourcing greener materials for its products.
This collaboration with Salzgitter further strengthens Lindab’s position as a leader in environmentally responsible manufacturing, while also supporting the broader industry shift toward sustainable steel production.
