Węglokoks Signs Agreement to Restructure Huta Pokój Steel Plants

Huta Pokój

Polish coal company Węglokoks has signed an agreement to restructure the Huta Pokój Profile and Huta Pokój Konstrukcje steel plants in Ruda Śląska, Poland. The plan includes financial recovery, operational optimization, and workforce adjustments, according to Dziennik Zachodni.

Debt Conversion and Operational Optimization

Huta Pokój’s debt to Węglokoks is substantial, though specific figures were not disclosed. The restructuring plan involves converting debt into equity, optimizing costs, reorganizing assets, and consolidating the two companies. Investments will be made to modernize production, including a new welding hall and upgraded production lines.

Workforce Changes and Strategic Investments

While mass layoffs are not planned, personnel changes are expected, including transfers to other Węglokoks enterprises such as Huta Częstochowa. Employees will have the option of voluntary layoffs with retraining programs and social guarantees.

Expansion of Steelmaking Operations

Węglokoks has been actively reviving struggling Polish steelmakers. In early February, the company resumed production at Huta Częstochowa’s plate mill after more than a year of inactivity. Additionally, the firm is exploring collaboration with the former Rurexpol pipe-rolling plant, known for its high-demand drill pipes.

Founded in 1840, Huta Pokój is one of Poland’s oldest steel plants, specializing in steel profiles and construction materials. Its restructuring is crucial for the Silesian industrial sector.
