Price Increase Driven by EU Import Restrictions
ArcelorMittal is set to increase hot rolled coil (HRC) prices by €20/tonne ($21) across northern Europe, according to market sources. The adjustment will apply to new deliveries beginning in June.
The new base delivered price for HRC allocations is set at €700/t. Industry insiders attribute this price hike to the EU’s import restrictions, which are driving customers to prioritize domestic sourcing within Europe. The recent adjustments to EU safeguard measures have slightly improved demand, fostering a more optimistic sentiment in the European coil market.
Southern Europe Follows Pricing Trend with Delay
Southern Europe is gradually adopting the same pricing trend, albeit with a slight delay. Currently, northern European prices are approximately €10/t higher than those in Italy and Spain.
Buyers who spoke with Kallanish have expressed concerns over the availability of HRC in Europe. Many cite the ongoing challenges of importing material due to trade restrictions and logistical hurdles.
