Annual Geoscience Exploration Seminar Showcases Northern Territory’s Mining Potential
The Northern Territory Government is reaffirming its commitment to the resources sector by supporting mineral exploration through its annual Geoscience Exploration Seminar (AGES). This event attracts hundreds of industry delegates to Alice Springs, where experts present the latest geological insights and exploration advancements.
Strengthening the NT Economy Through Exploration
NT Mining and Energy Minister Gerard Maley emphasized the role of the resources sector in driving economic growth.
“(The NT) Government must rebuild the economy, and a strong and competitive resources sector is key to creating jobs and driving growth,” Maley stated. “We’ve made 2025 a year of action, certainty, and security, and AGES is key to our strategy to ensure the Northern Territory remains a leading jurisdiction for exploration and mining investment.”
The conference will provide industry professionals with access to the latest geoscience data, made available through the $9.5 million per annum Resourcing the Territory program. This initiative aims to de-risk and expedite mining projects, making NT an attractive destination for investment.
Exploration Focus: Pine Creek and Central Australia
The 2025 AGES seminar places a special focus on the northern region of the state, particularly the Pine Creek area, where the NT Geological Survey has conducted recent studies to stimulate new mineral discoveries. The program will highlight exploration successes and revitalization efforts across central Australia.
Technical presentations will cover key resources, including lithium, graphite, and rare earths, positioning the NT as a crucial player in the supply of critical minerals.
Strategic Vision for Growth
Minister Maley outlined the NT Government’s long-term vision, emphasizing five strategic economic priorities:
- Making the NT the best place to do business
- Building a bigger and more skilled workforce
- Strengthening Australia’s resource supply chain
- Unlocking regional growth opportunities
- Enhancing connectivity across the Territory
“We are committed to building an economy that is the manufacturing, mining, and energy powerhouse of the nation, benefiting all Territorians by improving lives and restoring the Territory lifestyle,” Maley said.
With a focus on economic certainty and sustainable resource development, the NT Government aims to solidify its position as a leader in mineral exploration and mining investment.
